Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July,
we certainly did.
"33rd Annual 4th of July Road Rally"
This event is definitely one of the yearly highlights! Lots of fun for teams and families. You are given a list of clues to find answers, while you follow directions for a driving course around the island. Prizes are awarded for time, mileage and for the most correct answers to the quiz about things that can be seen along the route. There is a $35 entry fee to enter the rally. Lots of island residents participate as well as vacationers. It is something that even folks new to the island can do and totally enjoy! There was an Afterglow Party at the Sanibel Grill after the Road Rally and also a "50/50" raffle. Trust me when I say it was a blast!!! :)
This club is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization with all funds going directly to help kids! There is only a small amount of members in this club, so they each have to put in a huge amount of work to make this event such a success.
So thank you from us.....for such a fun afternoon and evening!
Also thanks to The Sanibel Grill for hosting the after party, which we thoroughly enjoyed!
The theme for this years road rally was "We Rally For Island Youth".
Some folks decorate their vehicle for the rally, some with a theme of their own, a patriotic one or one that pertains to the rally theme.
This year we decided to use, "Rockets Flare for Island Youth", for ours.
Now, I'm not saying how many of these things flew off and had to be retrieved! Ugh!
If you are thinking of a Sanibel vacation during the summer next year, you might want to consider 4th of July week, and enter the road rally, it would probably be the highlight of your visit! You can have a great time and maybe even learn a few things about the island that you didn't know before.
These were the only two pictures I had time to take while we were on the rally course. I was busy filling out the answer sheet.
Both islands on the Sanibel Causeway were literally packed with people and cars!
